Colored Terra Sigillatas

Clay Art Center’s selection of Colored Terra Sigillatas are amazing for use with Horse Hair or Naked Raku firing processes. Based off of our classic OM4 Terra Sigillata, we add specially selected colorants to create a palette of beautiful and mellow colors.

Apply Clay Art Center Colored Terra Sigillatas to bone dry wares in layers. allow to fully dry in-between coats. Burnish/Polish/Buff with your hand a burnishing stone or a plastic bag to bring out the natural sheen. Bisque fire as low as cone 017 or as hot as cone 08 to prepare them for raku firing. Your choice of bisque and firing temp will vary based on the process you are utilizing.

Alternatively, our Colored Terra Sigillata can be used as a engobe all the way up to cone 10, use them to deposit color or highlight textures. Terra Sigillata will lose it’s characteristic sheen if fired greater than cone 2.
