Frits
Clay Art Center stocks range of common and not-so-common Frits used by ceramic artists. Frits are most commonly used in the formulation of glazes. They offer a highly consistent blend of materials in a comparatively less hazardous and more user friendly form and each type of frit has different characteristics due to their formulation. These materials may be used to adjust the surface quality, melt fluidity and color response or glazes.
Frits may also be found in some commercial clay bodies. They are used to lower the maturity temperature (Cone) of a body or they may be used to increase vitrification or increase the strength of a lower firing body.
