Silica/Flint

Clay Art Center in Tacoma offers a selection of Silica for use in clay and glaze formulation. Generally speaking fine mesh silica (325m+) is ideal for glaze formulation and lower mesh (200m and lower) is better for clay bodies.

Fused Silica is ideal for many glazes since it is a pure amorphous form of silica vs. crystalline silica and the quartz inversion has less of an impact on it resulting in better expansion characteristics.
