Throwing Bats, Bat Systems and Accessories

Clay Art Center stocks a wide selection of different throwing bats for pottery including bat systems. Throwing bats are placed on top of the wheelhead on your pottery wheel using the bat pins and the holes on the bats.

Duron or Tempered Hardboard Bats are slightly absorbent for good clay adhesion and bottom drying. They are compact and easy to store and will last many years if cared for properly. Hardboard bats are a great choice for the professional or hobbyist potter who uses many bats and has a controlled studio setting.

Medex bats have a great clay adhesion and bottom drying. Their increased rigidity keeps pot rims true when lifting them off the wheel head. Made of a moisture-resistant MDF material.

Plastic Bats are textured on both sides so clay adheres equally well on either surface: a true “two-sided” bat. Plastic bats are easy to care for, extremely versatile, and a great choice for schools and art centers where pots are often left on bats for long periods of time. Perfectly flat!

HydroBats (commonly known as plaster bats) are made of a plaster material called HydroStone. They are super absorbent and very strong, up to 8x stronger than standard pottery plaster. Their high absorbency allows for the removal of wares without the use of a wire.

Bat Systems are a popular choice as they allow you to utilize a master bat and multiple bat inserts. This allows you to easily remove the insert off the wheel to move your ware.
